HackSmith III is Smith College's 3rd consecutive hackthon! Sponsored by Smith's Computer Science Club, Smithies In CS, students from all over the east coast will be invited to Smith's campus for a 24-hour adventure.

Whether this is your first time writing code, or you're a seasoned hacker, you'll have access to all the resources you need from mentors to a plethora of APIs. Keeping true to our original mission of closing the gender cap, HackSmith will ensure a 50:50 gender ratio and promote creating a safe space to design, tinker, and build.

Hacking Schedule


Saturday

Registration — 9:30am

Breakfast — 9:30-10:30am

Opening Remarks + Keynote — 10:30-11:30am

Lunch — 12:00pm

Team forming — 12:30-1:00pm

Hacking BEGINS! — 1:00pm

Workshops / Team Forming — 1:00-3:00pm

Dinner — 6:00pm

Late Night Meal — 1:00am

1:00pm — Hacking ENDS!

1:45pm — Judging & Demos

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon is a 24-hour event where awesome people get together to make cool apps, websites, games, gadgets, etc...

Can I attend?

HackSmith is open for everyone! Well, as long as you're an 18+ student (and you know you're cool and stuff)

Where should I go?

The opening ceremony will be in the Carroll Room on the 2nd floor of the Campus Center.

This is my first time, I'm nervous...

This is a great place to learn. We will have mentors and workshops throughout HackSmith which you can use as resources to learn something new. There is also a newbie track and a prize for new coders!

Will there be hardware to borrow?

YES! MLH is providing their signature Hardware Lab, which is sponsored by the likes of Alienware, Leap Motion, Oculus, Amazon Alexa, Intel, and Particle. Please bring your ID to borrow hardware!

What about travel reimbursement?

Limited travel reimbursement will be provided to students who are not from the five-college area. Please indicate that you'd like travel reimbursement on your application.

And teams?

If you're in need of teammates or ideas for a hack, we will help match you during a team formation session.

Can I sleep overnight?

Yes, there will be designated area for sleeping! We encourage all hackers to take care of themselves and sleeeeep.

What should I bring?

Your laptop, phone, chargers, ID, sleeping bags - if you would like - and most of all a great hacking spirit!

Can I volunteer?

The more, the merrier! If you're a Smithie, let us know here.
